The ‘Spanish Hogfish Cleaning Station’

The Spanish Hogfish Cleaning Station, like any cleaning station, is a ‘natural underwater spa’ run by, in this case, juvenile Spanish Hogfish.

Set on a pinnacle for maximum visibility and exposure, the ‘spa’ is a neutral zone on the reef where no predation takes place. The juvenile Spanish Hogfish’s cleaning duties keep them safe from predators until they are big enough to fend for themselves. Check out as they clean inside the fishes gills and mouths. No matter where they go, their clients will never eat them!
