Liquid Motion® is the underwater film and creative world founded in the 1990s by Anita and Guy Chaumette—internationally acclaimed, multi-award-winning underwater filmmakers, cinematographers, videographers, photographers and artists.

For more than three decades, they have created landmark films and imagery for National Geographic Television, BBC, ARTE, Discovery, RAI, Smithsonian, FOX and many of the world’s leading broadcasters. Their work spans international television, documentary, cinema, natural history, corporate and advertising production, marine science, conservation and private commissions—and has received more than 100 prestigious international awards.

The real story begins much earlier.

A LIFE LIVED CLOSE TO THE STORY

For the decades that followed, Anita and Guy lived and worked across some of the world’s most remote island archipelagos—from the Seychelles and Maldives to Fiji, Indonesia, Australia, the Pacific and the Caribbean.

They filmed, photographed, researched and made movies. They ran remote island resorts, worked multiple jobs, financed their own films and made more than a few crazy deals simply to return to the ocean and continue creating.

They did not simply visit these places. They lived within their rhythms.

They returned to the same reefs and the same animals, sometimes for months or years. They learned how marine creatures live, communicate, reproduce, compete, cooperate and survive. They worked alongside leading scientists and oceanographers, combining long-term field observation with scientific knowledge and cinematic storytelling.

From a tiny pygmy seahorse giving birth before dawn to complex courtship, fluorescence, communication and the hidden social lives of reef creatures, their films have revealed worlds most people never knew existed.

Along the way, they documented numerous world firsts in marine animal behaviour and created internationally acclaimed films including The Reef, Talking with Fishes, City Under the Sea and the National Geographic exclusive Water Colours.

But their purpose was never simply to record what happened.

It was to understand it—and then make other people feel it.

WATCHING. WAITING. SEEING.

Anita and Guy’s work is built on observation. They watch. They wait. They learn what the animal is doing and why it matters before asking the camera to capture it.

Because the ocean gives you far more when you stop asking it to perform.

That patience, combined with deep marine knowledge and more than three decades of professional filmmaking, enables them to recognise behaviour, anticipate a developing sequence and remain with moments that a less experienced team might never see.

Technical mastery matters. Preparation matters. Safety matters. But the camera is only the beginning.

The real work lies in knowing when an image has become a story—and how that story can reach beyond the screen to create wonder, understanding and change.

In our heart of hearts, we are storytellers.

From their base in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, they work internationally across film, photography, videography, aerial filming, website and visual design—supporting everything from international broadcasts to local businesses. Whatever the project, it receives the same visual intelligence and personal care.

When Anita and Guy accept a project, it becomes personal.

They listen until they understand what the story is truly trying to say. They prepare carefully, work calmly and remain completely committed when conditions become difficult or the ocean changes the plan.

Decades spent filming in remote locations have taught them that equipment is only part of the answer. Judgement matters. Patience matters. Character matters. Trust matters.

Whether they are joining a major international production as specialist underwater filmmakers or creating an entire film from first idea to final delivery, they bring themselves fully to the work.

The aim is never simply to provide footage. It is to create something unmistakable—technically exceptional, emotionally truthful and entirely its own. Something that fulfils the brief, elevates the production and stays with the audience long after the screen has faded.

More than three decades later, Anita and Guy have never lost their fascination with the underwater world.

They still dive, film, photograph, write, teach, research and develop new stories. Guy can still become completely absorbed by the tiniest marine creature. Anita will still follow an idea from its first fragile possibility until every element comes together.

Their daughter Crystelle has grown up within this world and now dives and films beside them—bringing a new pair of eyes to the ocean and continuing a family story built around curiosity, creativity and the sea.
